LYE Town returned to winning ways on Tuesday night with a slender 1-0 success over last season's West Midland League champions Sporting Khasa.

It was Lye's first fixture at Stourbridge Road this term owing to their ground share situation with the cricket club and a bumper crowd were made to wait for the winning goal.

Central defender Jack Pearlman plundered the only goal in the 89th minute after forcing home at the third attempt.

Pearlman headed for goal from a Ben Wilkins corner, but the effort was blocked, before Pearlman followed up and fired home at the third time of asking to register his first goal since arriving from Causeway United in the summer.

The result stopped the rot of three defeats and got Lye's Midland League campaign back on track.

Lye turn their attentions to the FA Vase on Saturday when they host Barnt Green Spartak from Midland League Two.

They were boosted on Tuesday by the appearence of close season signing Sam Rock from Stourbridge, who came on as substitute after being sidelined by injury .

Other new recruits this season include Stourbridge youngster Sam Tye, Former Stourport Swifts player Dan Flowers, another Causeway capture Sam Beasley, former Bromsgrove goalkeeper Jake Bedford and one-time Redditch United player Joel Caines.

Chairman Brian Blakemore said: "We have a much younger squad this season and it will take time to bed-in.

"After making a blistering start by scoring nine goals against Brocton and Westfields, we went off the boil a bit, but we've added more depth to the squad although we probably still need to strengthen in places."
