DUDLEY'S Ryan Aston is hoping Wolverhampton Civic Hall again proves a happy hunting ground after being added to the Valentine Night’s pro boxing bill.

‘Tank’ will make it a hat-trick of impressive victories under the Civic lights if he can do the business against Simone Lucas on Saturday, February 14, in front of the BoxNation cameras.

The 23-year-old light middleweight first competed at the venue on the undercard of a Prizefighter in February 2012, taking just 90 seconds to dispose of Kieron Gray.

A left hook to the body put Gray out for the count and he returned in July 2013 to win his first title, the British Masters, Harry Matthews retiring after four punishing rounds with a broken rib.

And now the slick southpaw is looking to make another big statement against Lucas, who he was due to box in early December in the Holte Suite at Aston Villa before the show was cancelled.

He said: "It’s a great venue with a good atmosphere. In my eyes, it’s the best small hall in the country for boxing.

“Kieron Gray was my fifth pro fight and my first time in the ring at the Civic, I caught him at the fight time in the right place and that was that, very early on.

“Then there was Harry Matthews which got me my first title and that was a fantastic night, against a well-regarded opponent.

“We have been hunting for Simone Lucas as an opponent for a while now, as I know he’s durable. He’s clever and knows what he’s doing.

“He’s not just a guy with a big frame, he’s got his wits about him and it’s a good fight for me to get back into things. This will remind people what I have got.”

Aston is part of a whopping 10-fight supporting cast to a main event that will produce a contender to the WBO world lightweight crown.

The organisation’s European title holder, Stephen Ormond, puts up his belt against bitter rival and British champion Terry Flanagan.

But the Black Country combatant is just glad to have a bout, after having to wait until the summer to get in the ring last year and see off Stanislav Nenkov in six at Dudley’s the Venue.

He said: “Obviously, it was a bit of a disappointment with my last fight being called off, but I have kept myself in the gym and ticking over during Christmas and New Year.

“I am just glad to be on a show, last year I waited until March to get a fight date and it was June until I boxed, so I am looking forward to getting one under my belt nice and early into 2015.

“It’s a stacked bill, it will be a great card, and this is all about getting me out there and putting me back in the public eye, at a venue I have some great memories of.”
