MARTIN Thomas has set his Lye Town players the challenge of finishing in the top six in the Midland Football League.

Joint-managers Thomas and Darren Goodall think the squad could be capable of a high league placing after a superb first half of the season.

Last Saturday's 1-0 win over AFC Wulfrunians lifts Lye to fifth in the league.

A goal in the 80th minute from Matt Johnson gave the visitors a deserved success after dominating the game.

"That was probably our best performance of the season," said Thomas. "We played some really fluid football and could have been 4-0 up at half time. Only wasteful finishing meant that Wulfrunians were still in the game. We should have been well out of sight by the time we got the goal.

"Forwards don't miss chances deliberately and the positive is that they are getting the opportunities.

"My target now for the players is to finish in the top six. We now have enough points to keep us in the league and can look ahead to a different goal.

"Wherever we finish will be the highest Lye Town have ever finished in their history. We will aim for the top six and see where it takes us."

Lye will welcome Westfields to Stourbridge Road this Saturday.

Thomas has a fully fit squad to select from that has also been boosted with the recent inclusion of youngsters Elliot Davies and George Rogers.
