A mother is set to lead a special Easter fundraiser in support of the children's charity that cared for her son.

Lisa Sharman, from Halesowen, and the team at insurance company Gallagher in Brierley Hill are preparing for an Easter Bunny Hop, aiming to raise funds for children's charity Molly Ollys.

The fundraiser will take place on Thursday, March 28.

The charity provided support to her son, Fred, who was diagnosed with the same rare Wilms tumour suffered by eight-year-old Molly, whom the charity is named after.

Ms Sharman said: "We were given the awful news about Fred in September 2018.

"He then relapsed in August 2019 and had to go through treatment and a stem cell transplant all over again.

"Thankfully, Fred, now aged six, is leading a healthy life, but we’ll never forget how the charity was there for us."

She recalled that after Fred's initial hospitalisation, they were given a cuddly lion toy named Olly The Brave and books that made the overwhelming information about the disease understandable for him, saying: "they were a way for him to relate to what was happening as he got older."

The 'Bunny Hoppers' will leave Gallagher's Birmingham office at 9am and aim to reach Molly Olly's offices in Warwick by 5pm, each covering half of the 22-mile route.

This latest endeavour is part of Gallagher's ongoing support to the charity, and will take their fundraising total to over £43,000.

Support for the Hoppers can be shown by donating to their fundraising page (https://www.justgiving.com/page/ajgbunnybop2024).

Rachel Ollerenshaw, co-founder of the charity, said: "They are an inspiration and show how companies and individuals can make a very positive difference when they truly get stuck in.

"They have helped to make a very real difference."
