A NEWLY-ordained deacon is starting his ministry in Dudley Wood and Cradley Heath, providing welcomed support for the merged parish.

It is almost two years since the congregation left St Luke’s Church, Cradley Heath, when it was closed down and moved to St John’s, Dudley Wood.

The church has maintained a presence in the town with a community link in High Street and Vicar Rev Alicia Baker said the assistance of Rev Chris Enwerem would be “very valuable”.

The father-of-three was ordained at Worcester Cathedral by the Bishop of Worcester Rt Rev Dr John Inge last Sunday.

Rev Baker said: “We are very pleased to be able to welcome Chris, his wife Foluso and their children to the parish.”

She added the community link has become extremely busy as a place to drop in for a drink and chat and take advantage of the jobs’ club and benefits advice service.

The link is also an outlet for the Black Country Foodbank.
