A woman who betrayed the friendship of a Stourbridge pensioner by stealing more than £28,000 from his bank account has been ordered to pay back just £920.

The only realisable asset held by 45-year-old Elizabeth Teague was an old Citroen car valued at that sum, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told at a Proceeds of Crime hearing.

Teague, who was jailed for two years in July having admitted two charges of theft, was brought back before the crown court for the hearing where a confiscation order was made against her to the sum of £920.

A Dudley dollmaker has told how she was flattered after hearing one of her creations was mistaken for a real baby after it was left in a car parked outside Russells Hall Hospital.

Debbie Bonner was shocked when she heard police had smashed their way into 20-year-old Delesia Rattray's Vauxhall Corsa thinking that the "extremely life-like doll", left wrapped up in a blanket by her 10-year-old sister Janiah, was a critically ill baby.

A World War II survivor made an emotional return to Kidderminster after 60 years to show her son where he was born.

Nora Klim and her son Frank flew had arranged a trip to her native Ireland from the USA where they now live before making a spur-of-the-moment to visit the town for a few days.

The 94-year-old grandmother-of-four said she wanted to see how the place had changed since she left as well as showing Frank where he spent his early years.

The organisation running Redditch's Alexandra Hospital has continued to struggle to meet a range of NHS targets.

The latest figures released by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust show a slight improvement in a number of areas including A&E waiting times in August, but still fall short of national requirements.

A Redditch man sparked a “lockdown” in which neighbours were evacuated from their homes after threatening officers that he would “blow them up” with a bomb, a court heard.

Dean Tambling, aged 26, had earlier been seen on CCTV, dressed in camouflage clothing, trying to break down the door of a neighbour’s flat with a 2ft long machete.

When police arrived at his flat in Winslow Close, Redditch, on May 25, he held a plastic bag through the letterbox containing nails, said he had gunpowder, and waved the barrel of an air rifle at them, Gerald Bermingham, prosecuting, told Worcester Crown Court.

Bromsgrove residents are getting ready to give a big welcome to Syrian refugees after the district offered to provide a sanctuary for those fleeing the war-torn country.

"Bromsgrove Welcomes Refugees" has been set up to give community support to at least 12 desperate Syrian families who are expected to be offered homes in the area over the next year.
