A STALKER who bombarded an Oldbury teenager with hundreds of phone calls and text messages when he became "obsessed" with the girl after seeing her singing on YouTube has been jailed for 22 months.

Karl Timms had already been made the subject of a restraining order to have no contact with the 17-year-old and given a suspended jail term for harassing her family.

But he breached both orders as he made more than 400 calls to the girl on one day and followed up with hundreds more calls to her mother and father.

The teenager became fearful for her safety and the actions of 33-year-old Timms began to affect her health, said Paul Reid prosecuting.

He told Wolverhampton Crown Court that Timms managed to discover the new telephone numbers obtained by the family after they had been changed to try and get him out of their lives.

After his arrest, Timms told police officers he had deliberately set out to antagonise the girl's father with his abusive messages in the hope he would "kill him" after he became obsessed with the girl.

Mr Reid said Timms was given the restraining order and suspended sentence after making hundreds of calls to the family home following her YouTube appearance.

The girl who became extremely frightened had been left badly disturbed by the calls and when police officers later searched Timms' home they found Google maps to her Oldbury address together with photographs of the teenager.

Timms, of Farmers Court, Droitwich, admitted two charges of breaching a restraining order and two breaches of his suspended prison sentence.

Judge Michael Dudley said: "This sort of offence is seriously debilitating towards your victim."

William Rickaby defending told the court that Timms had already spent six months in custody while being held on remand adding: "He is now ready to make a new start in his life."
