A DRUG addict has been jailed for 10 months after a court heard he tried to strangle his mother at her Rowley Regis home.

Rajeev Kumar had been made the subject of a restraining order forbidding him from going anywhere near the family home but just four weeks later he turned up at the house.

Howard Searle, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court how the 29-year-old became aggressive when his mother said he should not be there and put his hands round her throat.

He squeezed until she blacked out and the police were called when she regained consciousness to find herself on the floor.

Kumar, of Enfield Road, admitted assault by beating and breaching the order and was told by Judge Michael Dudley he had squandered the chances he had been given by courts in the past.

He said: "I am afraid you have now run out of chances. You have been given every opportunity to come to terms and deal with your drug problem.

"This time you have gone too far. You put your hands round your mother's throat and you strangled her until she lost consciousness."

Simon Williams, defending, said Kumar had a long standing drug habit but having spent three months behind bars on remand he had now had time to reflect on his behaviour.
