THOUSANDS of people will descend on Halesowen this weekend for the Black Country Road Run and fun run.

The event, which is the biggest in the town's social calendar, will see runners tackling a 10k road race and 5k fun run on Sunday morning.

Now in its third year the event has got bigger every year with the town's residents expecting to line the route and give encouragement to runners.

Over 600 runners have already signed up for the event and organisers, The Halesowen and Rowley Regis Rotary Club, are hoping to break fundraising records.

Last year over £20,000 was raised for good causes with runners picking charities close to their hearts to benefit from sponsorship cash.

People can register for the event on the day, the 10k road race begins at 9am and the fun run at 11am which will be started by Blind Dave Heeley who is running in the earlier race as well.

Race co-ordinator Alan Bowler said: "It will be a fantastic day for Halesowen and the Black Country as it is a real community event which the people of Halesowen have really taken to their hearts.

"It is all about the charities and people are really looking forward to hearing how much we have raised this year."
